Fundamental Customs Demo Home Theater

I went to the local fancy multiplex theater one day to see some random action movie. And it made me angry. It made me angry that while I had a very respectable home theater system, it felt nothing like this mega big pro version. That night, I got to work on designing the new Fundamental ‘Pro Theater’ line of loudspeakers. Using speaker components usually found in nightclubs or other large venues, I designed these monster, 4 foot tall left, center, and right speakers along with a dual-18 inch subwoofer. All hidden behind a 150″ acoustically transparent screen.

This design takes a ‘brute force’ approach to home theater and it performs like nothing I’ve heard in a home before. The front end of the theater utilizes three JBL compression tweeters, twelve Eminence 8″ woofers, and two 18″ subs. It’s more impactful, more engaging than a standard home theater. In short, it’s just so much more… FUN.

A picture of the speakers was taken before the screen was installed. Then, that picture is used as a custom wallpaper for the Control4 On Screen Display. Visitors get a life-size peek at the Pro Theater speakers hidden behind the screen.

Liquor Shelf

This shelf made of pine and iron pipe holds all your tasty treats. Along with a few fancy glasses with with to enjoy them. Designed to hold 6-7 bottles of your favorite spirit; Whiskey, Rum, Tequila, and more Whiskey. But not vodka. Vodka is gross, you guys.

This is made from solid pine. No veneer, no cardboard, no shortcuts. Iron pipe accessories give the shelf a more rustic look. It also attaches to the wall using a French cleat for a super solid and strong mount.

Custom LCR Speakers

The great thing about a Fundamental Custom Speaker is that it’s designed and built specifically for you and your needs. Rather than drudging through catalogs and online forums, trying to find some existing product that kinda sorta hopefully works for your application, have Fundamental design one especially for you. It’ll sound better, it’ll look better, and literally nobody else in the world will have the same thing you do.

This client had a need for a great sounding speaker to fit a very specific space. Fundamental designed these speakers with two 5 inch woofers and a ribbon tweeter for clean, detailed sound that blended in with the room’s furnishings. A tuned, vented enclosure provides as much bass as possible from the small speaker enclosure. The client picked the cosmetics, the location, chose the color, and Fundamental Customs handled the rest. The end result is a unique, optimized, and 100% original creation that exists nowhere else.

Cabin in the Uintas

This massive ‘cabin’ is for the family that wants to get away… but not quite get away from it all. Eight Samsung TVs, Sonos Audio Distribution, Klipsch and Polk speakers, Camera Surveilance, and a home theater with Epson Pro series proector 120″ screen, and a Fundamental Customs 18″ custom subwoofer.

An 18″ woofer needs a big box! But the owner of this theater didn’t want to clutter up the room with a large square subwoofer enclosure. Fundamental designed this bandpass enclosure to sit in the storage room adjacent to the theater with a vent that pipes the sound in through the wall. Trimmed out with the same wood as used to clad the walls of the room, it’s a nearly invisible solution for massive bass with no visual impact to the theater room.

Dead Deadmau5

So, I had the idea that Deadmau5 needed to be more… dead. Presenting the Fundamental Dead Deadmau5 head. Does that just make it Headmau5? Whatever.

I used a 14″ inch light globe for the base, insulation foam with threaded metal rods for the ears, and some 100 mm clear Christmas ornaments for the eyes. An adjustable hard hat is installed inside to fit anyone’s head perfectly.

IKEA DJ Booth

Who knew you could build a super cool, portable DJ booth from almost exclusively IKEA parts? I did.

This booth holds two Pioneer CDJ800s, 4-Channel Mixer, desktop computer running Serato Scratch Live, Jamo OnWall LCR speakers used as monitors, and wired with LEDs to match the the lighting in the rest of the room.

You’ll see I’ve been around awhile. These installation archives go all the way back to projects I completed back in the late 90’s all the way through 2016.
